The mood generation
The Mood Generation is a social media campaign that addresses the emotions that come along with anxiety and depression. With the use of photography we are expressing mental heath in a different way.
Problem: There is a struggle for young adult and teens to communicate how they’re feeling, when it comes to their anxiety and depression. This creates a strain in relationships, either parent child or between relatives or friends.
Solution: Put the emotions out there. These images make you feel, either in a good or bad way. The photos are a medium for people with out anxiety or depression to start to understand some one these emotions. Eventually, down the road, when it becomes more familiar and theres a certain amount of comfort with the topic, a dialogue can start. A parent feels comfortable asking about the child’s mental health, a friend can start to feel what their friend is going through.
Social Media
Instagram is the main social media page used for the project. Once a post is made all linked pages, facebook twitter and Tumblr, will post the same content. Social media was used instead of an app because the platforms allow you to see who’s liking and connecting with the posts. If your a parent, you can see your child like the picture, and it can be used as a conversation started for their anxiety or depression.

What does Mood mean?
Now we see the word mood being used all the time just to describe things. Whether that means a situation, or emotion, or it can be used to relate to someone or something else.
The word Mood has made an easy way for people to relate to one another. Your friend mentions she hasn’t studied for that quiz tomorrow, neither have you, and thats a mood. You leave a family party to go hang out with the dog, most of your friends would do the same so for them thats a mood. A friend is feeling really down and just out of it, you have been too. The easiest way to relate without talking about it because its a lot to get into at the moment, you say “Yeah I know, same, its a mood”
Although this sounds strange, the phrase “mood” or “its a mood” targets and relates to people in their 20’s, which is the targeted audience.
Research Data
Using google forms we were able to create a survey that would gather information and compare the answers. Google forms also allowed us to create a link and share the survey while keeping it anonymous which was crucial due to the sensitivity of mental illness. The survey was then posted on social media platforms like Redit, instagram, Facebook, and snapchat, here is some visual data points from the 62 people we interviewed.
